The Soda Jerks bra stringers passed the one mile mark late Wenesday night and there are still more to zip tie to the 50 foot lengths! Stay tuned for progress updates!! Weather is looking cool but DRY for Sunday…thank you, Lord!
Okay, listen up! The information in the previous post is all right except that the pop-up tent and banner will be ACROSS from Widewaters, near the parking spot off the Cold Springs canal bridge. That puts you closer to the bra lines. Just look for the giant banner and balloons and you’ll be all set.
IF YOU GET LOST ON THE WAY AND CAN’T FIND CRAZY CAROL ANDER AND THE TENT, CALL HER CELL AT 560-2081
Before you get settled on the north side, be sure to take a chance on the Chinese auction and 50/50 at the Breast Cancer Canal Walk event site. Winners must be present, but the drawing does not start until after the walk and the bra display, so bring your chair around and scoop up some prizes!

I’m sending out another call for volunteers to help us get the bras out there for their outing at the Mother’s Day Breast Cancer Canal Walk on Sunday! What we need are people who are NOT taking part in the walk- (two people for each 50 foot line of bras) to help support the line while the MDBCCW walkers walk by them along the canal!
Carol will have a pop-up tent with the Mammary Mile banner along the grass, somewhere between the Canal Walk registration tent and Matt Murphy Way. We are hoping, of course, for DRY weather because some of your artfully crafted bras are extremely delicate and not waterproof! They will lay the line across the north walking path of the canal beginning before 11 a.m. and the “Human Clothespoles” will go to their assigned space before the walk begins at 1 p.m. to display them in honor of all who are there to fight breast cancer! Obviously, if you are participating in the walk, you can’t hold the line. Now, it is perfectly okay for you to bring a chair so you don’t have to stand for an hour- we just want people to be able to see the bras as they pass. If there are TV cameras filming, (the news people might be there) you can stand up and smile for the cameras!
If you know teens who need community service hours documented for school or church, I will be in charge of writing letters to document participation. Email me at juliechatterbox@msn.com or call 795-9262 and let me know what you can do to help! We’ll also give a shout out to participating groups on this website!
When you come, be sure to check out the HUGE Chinese auction, side raffles and 50/50- open to everybody! All the proceeds from Sunday’s Walk go to Mary’s Room, the wig room at the American Cancer Society named in honor of Mary Marvin, and other cancer charities locally.
WEATHER ALERT****WEATHER ALERT*****WEATHER ALERT*********WEATHER ALERT
Right now the extended forecast says rain and wind on Saturday… no news yet about Sunday but you know how Western New York weather can change! The Canal Walk and auction etc. go on Rain or Shine without fail, but if it is raining we cannot stretch the bras out in the open on muddy ground! Remember they need to make it to their final destination at the American Cancer Society Relay For Life on June 19th! However, the tent and banner will still be there with many bras to look at! Stay tuned to this website as we get closer to the weekend for updates!!

A stop at Thee Barker Store, and Carol comes running out to show off some of the new bras! Thank you to all of our "Peeps" out there for your support!
There is so much to report! As we come into our final week before Phase 1 at the Canal Walk on Mother’s Day, we are getting new bras every day. Florence Rhodes of The Quiltmakers and Friends of Niagara Falls dropped off 36 bras. More came from The Twin City Quilters Guild, Patty Kuriscak and her friends & nieghbors and the Cheektowaga Home Bureau. Some are so beautiful they brought tears to Carol’s eyes! We shared a laugh over the ”Peeps” bra in the photo, because it’s thanks to all of our “Peeps” everywhere that this is having such a huge impact! While we are donating the undecorated bras to women in need, Carol is determined to keep all the beautifully decorated ones after this project is over, to display on the third floor over Thee Barker Store- rather than part with them! You have all touched her, and all of us, deeply.
My Red Hat friends came through big time with many more bras and money. In addition to all the clubs and individuals who have already helped us, Queen Mary Ann Notto of the Ladies in Red gave us quite a collection! Other groups participating in that collection (all the way to the Red Hat Birthday Bash last week )were Chablis Rouge Chapeaux (QM Sheila Scroger), Lady Red Dogs (QM Karen Zlasko) as well as many other ladies from our Red Hat groups here and in Canada (QM Jan Lucas). Mary Ann also got donations from Hamburg Senior Center, Silver Sneakers Class, New Beginnings, Italian Club and her friends in Michigan, Florida and Washington!!
Queen Linda Shutt fo the Lockport Red Hat Canal Cuties brought bras from her ladies and from Mount Olive Lutheran Church Women’s Bible Study.
Our sister RELAY FOR LIFE in Grand Island is represented by a donation from Team APP. Thank you so much for all you do to help in the fight against cancer! Grand Island rocks!
The Tri Town Chili Peppers from Alden left a $100 check at Carol’s door to sponsor more bras in the mile. What a nice surprise to come home to! Thank you Betty Lou!
Bless all of you who have helped us along the way! If we save even one life, what a wonderful gift!Be sure to read the next post about the Mother’s Day unveiling!! If your name or group did not get posted here, please, please contact me at juliechatterbox@msn.com and I will add them right away! Most bras come without names, etc. and we want to give credit whenever we can.
Thanks! Julie

Let’s hear it for the ladies of the Barge Canal Optimist Club for adding about 100 feet to the Mammary Mile! At their recent Beverages and Bras event, they raised $350 and got 50 bras for the cause! Laurie and Peggy have also joined the Relay For Life committee this year and their talents and ideas are truly appreciated. Thanks to the folks at Josie’s Place on West Ave. in Lockport for welcoming the gals and their glue-guns. Barker Soda Jerk Lori Jenks and ACS staff partner Jane Dent partied with the Pink Ladies for our cause! Thanks, everyone!

Bras keep making their way to Thee Barker Store from friends far and wide!
Roxanne Schrader sent a care package of 20 bras and $100 from the “Tri-County Babes” Red Hat group!! Thank you ladies!!!!!
A package also came from Holmes of the “Scarlett O’Hats.” If decorated tags are used instead of the bra itself, the bras can be donated after the Mammary Mile is over, to charities that deal with disaster relief or women-to-work programs for abusive women, etc. It’s like a double donation and we’re all trying to recycle and be kinder to our earth!!
A lady in Hamburg sent some amazing creations that are hanging above the soda fountain at the Barker Store!
